Who can use BFR training?
Forge Cuff can be used for rehabilitation and improved performance by:
- Physiotherapists
- Biokineticists
- Exercise Therapists
- Orthopaedic specialists
- Neurological rehabilitation specialists
- Athletes
- Strength and conditioning specialists
- General population for wellbeing
Precautions and contra-indications:
Please consult your physician first before engaging in Blood Flow Restriction therapy.
The following is a list of contra-indications but not limited to:
- Acidosis
- Cancer
- Extremities with dialysis port
- Excessive swelling in post-surgical limb, often UE (i.e. lymphedema)
- Patients with poor circulation systems: inspect: skin, nails, limbs for hair loss
- Increased intracranial pressure
- Impaired circulation
- Lymphedema (on limb)
- Open wound
- Pregnancy
- Previous revascularization of limb
- Sickle cell anemia
- Severe hypertension
- Cardiac conditions
- History of cerebral haemorrhage stroke
- Spinal cord injury prone to autonomic dysreflexia
- Severe crush injury
- Vascular graft
- Venous thromboembolism
- Atherosclerotic vessels
- Women who have had a mastectomy with or without radiation and/or an axillary node dissection. Avoid BFRT on the affected arm.
- People in hemodialysis who have arterial venous fistulas. Avoid BFRT exercise on the affected limb.
- Poor capillary refill time
- Varicose veins
- Abnormal clotting times
- Arterial calcification
- Diabetes
- Cardiopulmonary conditions
- Infection
- Sickle cell trait
- Minors (individuals under the age of 18 years should first consult a physician and perform BFRT under supervision)
